Bending it like Beckham!

Some people think David Beckham isn’t very intelligent. This show proves that he is, in fact, a scientific genius!

Combining footage of his most famous free kick, computer simulations and live science demonstrations this is a science show like no other. Use the Football Free Kick Simulator 2000 and your newly-found scientific knowledge to take a free kick like the world’s most famous footballer.

Expert science communicator James Soper (from BBC One’s Bang Goes the Theory) presents this unique combination of science and entertainment. The show appeals to all ages and is even enjoyed by those who don’t think they like soccer.

IBM Competition – My Idea for a Smarter Planet

Give students an opportunity to enter ideas as to how they feel technology can be used to make the world a smarter planet. The competition is hosted at

Smarter planet is split in to several categories so this makes an ideal classroom activity – where the class can be split into groups and each group research one of the smarter planet categories and come up with ideas.

If needed an IBM volunteer can visit the school to arrange the activity.

The ideas will be judged by a team of technologists in IBM and the winning entry will win a laptop for the student and a trip to IBM for their class. Announcement of winner is will be on 15th March 2010.

Building the Aviva Stadium

WIT Construction students PJ Rowe, Tom Brennan, Sean Fitzgerald and Colm Comerford had a dream industrial placement – on the construction of Aviva Stadium in Dublin. They will give a presentation on their experience on the Engineering & Construction of the landmark stadium for Rugby and Soccer internationals at Landsdowne Rd, Dublin and an insight into the studies and work of engineers in the construction sector.
