Who? Astellas is a pharmaceutical company with 300 employees in Kerry.
What? On-site session at our plant for local schoolchildren.
Where? Astellas, Killorglin, Kerry
When? Monday 10/2/2014
Why? To show the local students just how important an education is and to create a larger awareness of our company in the local area.
Two schools came and visited the Astellas plant in Kerry: Killorglin Intermediate School in the morning and Castlesisland Community College in the afternoon.
There were two HR staff members and three enginering staff members involved, as well as three co-op students. The co-op students felt it was a great experience to get involved in the organizing of the event, while other staff members said they felt it was important to make the local schoolchildren aware of the work that we do here in Astellas.
Altogether we had just over 80 students come visit the plant. The students asked plenty of questions and seemed to be very interested in engineering as a career.
Overall Engineers Week was a huge success for the company and we would highly recommend that other organizations get involved. We can’t wait for next year!
