The details

1For Engineers Week, we visited a workshop in Duleek library that introduced us to engineering.

We were divided into 4 groups to explore various aspects of engineering including building bridges from Knex, exploring which solution made the biggest bubbles, a strong house from cocktail sticks and marshmallows and simple circuits. It was really enjoyable.

2We also invited an engineer to our class to speak to us and 4th class about different types of bridges and examples of such from around the local area and the world. The other 6th class in our school also had a visit from an engineer that explored various topics – balloon friction!

We aren’t finished there either! We are completing a unit of work around bridges (we are lucky enough to have 7 locally!) and preparing to make a submission for the Discover Science award.

The 30 boys from 5th/6th class, 30 boys from 4th class and 32 boys from 6th class thoroughly enjoyed their experience with engineering and has definitely sparked an interest.
