Did you know that it is Engineers Week from 2nd to 8th March?
Did you know that International Women’s Day falls on the Friday of Engineers Week?
Engineers Week is a nationwide festival of engineering coordinated by STEPS in Engineers Ireland. Engineers Week is particularly special because it encourages EVERYONE to get involved – from industry leaders to libraries to moms and dads at home. STEPS and the Girl Guides have worked together for the past year to develop a Brownie and Guide Engineering Badge. This badge is a great opportunity for Guides and Brownies to discover how much guiding and engineering have in common. It gives the girls an opportunity to understand that guiding and engineering share many similar skill sets, including: team work, innovation, resourcefulness, thinking outside the box and practical application.
To celebrate this partnership and to celebrate women in engineering, STEPS have launched a fun, exciting but ambitious competition. To enter all you have to do is to carry out the Engineering Badge with your unit during Engineers Week (or before). The competition involves the main project element of the badge (Part 3 or 4 for Brownies and Guides respectively). The idea is that your Engineering Teams treat this project as a real engineering project – which they are seeking investment in. The Engineering Dragons in Engineers Ireland will select the project which shows the most Engineering Prowess AND that they believe is worth parting with their hard-earned money for.
The winning team (there will be one for Brownies and one for Guides) will be crowned the prestigious title of Ireland’s Top Guide Engineering Team (or Brownie). They will win a STEM voucher for Brix for Kids for their entire unit! Fantastic! Read more about the competition here: https://steps.ie/girl-guides-badge/girl-guides-competition.aspx
