Engineers Week 2010… the events
Engineers Week 2010 reached new frontiers with over 140 events took place across the country during the week which ran from 8th-13th February.
An incredible 120 organisations got involved to host events for people, primarily local students during Engineers Week. These organisations ranged from county councils to pharmaceutical companies and the defence forces. Activities were held in over 25 counties across Ireland; with over 17,000 participants taking part in total. All events were organised with the aim of showcasing the engineering profession and to highlight the importance of engineering in our daily lives.

Engineers Week National Prize Draw
Helen Smith, a Transition Year student from The Mercy College, Sligo was the lucky winner of the Engineers Week National Prize Draw. Helen attended a site visit in Abbott Laboratories during Engineers Week. The National Prize Draw took place in Engineers Ireland on 17th February.
The prize consisted of a once in a lifetime trip, for two adults and two children to the European Space Agency in The Netherlands. During the visit to the centre, Helen and her lucky guests explored the world of satellites with the test models of European Space Missions and gained an understanding into how astronauts live and work in space.

Engineers Ireland’s National Volunteer Day
- During Engineers Week 2010, Engineers Ireland coordinated the first National Volunteer day. The aim of the National Volunteer Day was to increase the awareness of the engineering profession among primary and post-primary school students as well as highlighting the importance of mathematics in the engineering profession by working through a fun and interesting maths activity sheet.
- Approx 1,000 engineers nationwide went to visit schools on this day. The STEPS to engineering team would like to thank all the volunteers that went to visit schools and would also like to thank the regional committee’s that assisted greatly in turning this campaign into a reality.
