As part of Engineers Week 2010, Engineers Ireland’s first National Volunteer Day will take place on Thursday 11th February, 2010. The aim of this National Volunteer Day is to:
- Increase the awareness of the engineering profession among primary and post-primary school students.
- Highlight the importance of mathematics in the engineering profession by working through
- a fun and interesting maths activity sheet.
How to get involved?
STEPS to engineering have partnered with the Armagh Planetarium, the Maths Applications Consortium for Science & Industry (MACSI) and the National Centre for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching and Learning (NCE-MSTL) to develop activity sheets which focus on mathematical concepts of space & astronomy.
STEP 1

Choose a section of the activity sheet that you would like to cover during the class visit. All questions do not have to be covered. If you do not complete the worksheet, encourage the teacher to cover the remaining sections following your visit.
The activity sheets and the answer sheets will be available for the teacher to download on www.engineersweek.ie following the visit.
The STEPS to engineering team would encourage you to highlight to the kids how maths is relevant to your job.
